Land Heart Song is Tiiu Strutt, a songwriter and educator passionate about singing songs that support families in nurturing their love for nature. Land Heart Song’s performances spark wonder and joy, inspiring everyone in the family to sing along and deepen their relationship with the natural world.

Since 2003, Tiiu has successfully recorded four albums, toured nationally, and received national and college radio play, including being a featured artist on CBC Radio’s “Canada Live” program.  As Land Heart Song, Tiiu has performed at festivals across Ontario, including Northern Lights Festival Boreal (Sudbury), SpringTide Music Festival (Uxbridge) and Restoration Festival (Burks Falls). A collaborator at heart, Land Heart Song has shared the stage with many nationally acclaimed family music entertainers, including four-time Juno-nominee GinaLina. Land Heart Song is also co-host of Toronto’s best family-music series at The Tranzac, working alongside co-host Pete Moss to create a hopping monthly gathering that features the diversity of family music entertainers from across Canada. Land Heart Song has also worked collaboratively with numerous local and national organizations to create meaningful musical workshops and performances that engage families with the natural world. Collaborators include The Child and Nature Alliance of Canada(CNAC) and Natural Curiosity, both national leaders in education.

Land Heart Song’s latest release is “You Belong Here”. The music video was created in collaboration with CNAC and Black in Nature and is featured in CNAC’s online course called Anti-Racism in Outdoor Play. This offering follows Land Heart Song’s 2023 album release, “Songs for Tree”. Produced by Joel Schwartz (Dione Taylor, Shawna Caspi), “Songs for Tree” is a song cycle that follows a child’s relationship with a tree through the seasons.

I inspire children and families to build their relationship with the land through song. When we sing, we connect deeply with our own voice. When we sing with others, we create a sense of belonging to our community. When we sing about the natural world, we foster a sense of wonder, curiosity and magic. The connection with self, community and land is the power of song to support us in finding new ways, together, to work towards climate action and social change.

“I heard you on the podcast from the Child and Nature Alliance and I loved listening to you. I teach kindergarten and I really related to everything you said (especially the wood chips). I am looking forward to incorporating more music in our outdoor learning times. Thank you!”
